JAMMU Aug 27: National Conference activists held protest in support of Article 35-A while veteran Congress leader Prof Saifuddin Soz, senior Congress leader Ashok Sharma and Jammu West Assembly Movement have supported the continuation of this Article in the State.
The SC Cell of National Conference has stressed the crucial need of safeguarding Article 35A of the Constitution saying it reflects the identity and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Leading a protest march of the workers at Ramnagar, the Co-Chairperson of the Cell, Vijay Lochan said that the people of the State would not allow Article 35-A to be weakened or repealed, as it related to economic sustenance and jobs of the youth. He said attempt of weakening this Act will tantamount to usurping the rights of the vast mass of the unemployed youth and exposing the business community to threat from non-state subjects who may come over to the State.
Meanwhile, veteran Congress leader, Prof Saifuddin Soz has said that the people of Kashmir have shown a unique sense of solidarity on the need to safeguard Article 35-A of the Constitution of India. It is timely that certain sections of society in Jammu and Ladakh have also realized that Article 35-A cannot be abrogated.
The mainstream parties have thought it prudent to issue only statements for safeguarding Article 35-A, but have not shown any inclination to move forward for any other pragmatic activity.
Former MLA and senior Congress leader Ashok Sharma while addressing workers meeting in Dangri area of Kalakote constituency today stressed upon the need to preserve and protect 35-A for equitable development, employment opportunities and exploration of natural economical potential of the State. Sharma pleaded that BJP, PDP and NC has created trust deficit by raising unwanted issues to sensitise and exploit the voters for getting power by all means which is unfortunate.
He said that Congress will educate the people in all the nooks and corners of the state involving the experts and intellectuals with regard to such sensitive issues and ensure that the voters are allowed to exercise their frenchise keeping real spirit in mind enshrined in the Constitution of India and the mission of freedom struggle in real sense.
Jammu West Assembly Movement leader Sunil Dimple has alleged that the BJP is creating law and order problem in the State by triggering the Article 35-A and Art 370, to hide its failure in the State and the country, for its vote bank policy, keeping an eye on the 2019 election.
He said JWAM fully supports the retention of the Article 35-A and 370 under the Indian constitution. He said Modi has set the state on fire and is trying divide the Jammu & Kashmir State by snatching our special status, cultural identities of Dogras, Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims, Ladakhis, etc for the lust of power.
