NC believes in performing, not sloganeering: Slathia

VIJAYPUR June 11: Saying that developmental scenario has received special impetus during the past five and half years, former minister and Member Legislative Assembly Surjit Singh Slathia on Wednesday reiterated that National Conference is committed to change the politico-economic landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
Laying foundation stone for developing Smailpur in Vijaypur Constituency as a model village this evening, Mr Slathia said Omar Abdullah led Government took to development from day one and the results are quite discernible.
“National Conference believes in performing and not sloganeering to hoodwink public opinion”, he declared.
The model village envisages infrastructural development at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore under rural development sector. In addition Rs 50 lakhs would be spent on strengthening of power distribution system in terms of laying transmission lines and replacing and installing poles in the village.
Mr Slathia, who is also Sr Vice President of J&K NC, said that successive Governments led by his party have flagged public interest at top of everything all along and will do so in future as well. He said faster development, quicker implementation of various welfare schemes and sustaining peace has been priority of the Government, which is discernible in every sphere of activity. He listed various initiatives taken for empowering the people and making administration responsive to their needs. In this context, he referred to the Public Services Guarantee and Right to Information Acts, saying these have been pioneering and path breaking in the entire country. “Right to know has gone a long way in making the government accountable”, he maintained.
Cautioning people against the machinations of those creating confusion or deceiving people in the name of region or religion, Mr Slathia said such tendencies are detrimental to harmony and peace. He vowed that his party will continue to fight such tendencies as it believes in the single entity of the state and brotherhood among the people.
“Polarisation of any sort fragments the society in bits and pieces”, he said adding that this is against the pluralistic ethos of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the people to raise their voice against perpetrators of hatred and work for harmonious society.
On the occasion, Mr Slathia gave an overview of the developmental activities taken in the constituency during the past five and half years, saying this initiative will continue in future as well. He sought cooperation of the people in implementing various schemes for the overall good of the area.
