MENDHAR, Apr 4: Additional Spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference (NC), Zeeshan Rana, while appreciating the Jal Jeevan Mission launched by the Union Government has expressed serious concern over the J&K Union Territory Administration’s alleged snail’s pace progress under this most significant scheme.
In a statement issued here, today Zeeshan Rana said that the scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission envisages to cover each and every house hold across the nation providing drinking water supply through the pipeline network by the year 2024. He said that the Union Government has allocated Rs.2747.17 crore for this project and it is quite unfortunate that the J&K UT administration has expended just a meagre amount of Rs. 52 crore only out of the huge allocated fund. He lamented that this fact in itself proves that the work on this prestigious Jal Jeevan Mission is far from satisfactory thus proving the inefficient handling of affairs by those at the helm of affairs in the governance of this Union Territory.
The NC leader said that the aforesaid lapses on the part of the administration are the result of absence of any representative Government in the Union Territory for the past few years. He said that it is only the democratically elected representatives of the people who have the real feel of the pulse at the ground level implementation while bureaucrats focus mainly on paper work regarding various schemes launched by the Government.
While demanding that elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory must be held at the earliest to ease the problems of the people, he sought Lt Governor Manoj Sinha’s immediate intervention to address the issue of the Jal Jeevan Mission works which are going on snail’s pace. He urged that the Government must without any further delay sincerely initiate proactive measures to pace up the speed of the ongoing works under the mission so that the target of providing drinking water through taps to every household is achieved well in the stipulated time frame.
