JAMMU, July 11: Urging women to take lead in fight against exploitative politics of the BJP and its betrayal to people of Jammu, National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today said that housewives have been hit most by failure of the present Coalition Government in containing price rise and ensuring essential utility services like power, water and rations.
“Hollow promises and zero performance has been the hallmark of PDP-BJP combination”, Rana said after leading the senior party leaders and workers in paying floral homage to Madr-e-Mehrban Begum of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah on her 16th death anniversary at a function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan.
Rana came down heavily on the BJP for letting down people, saying instead of solving their problems the party was indulging in petty politics of dividing various segments of society, not only to conceal its own failures but with an eye on forthcoming UP elections. He cautioned the BJP against converting the State as hate-theatre and said the misadventure could have serious political and strategic ramifications for the sensitive State.
The Provincial President also expressed concern over the dicey security situation and made a fervent appeal for peace and restoration of normalcy. He said the disturbed conditions have hugely impacted the normal life with tourists and Amarnathji pilgrims finding themselves stranded across the State. He expressed surprise over the insensitivity of the Government in meeting the situation and said that wrong policies have led to the prevailing crisis like situation across Jammu and Kashmir.
Making a fervent appeal to the people to maintain calm, the Provincial president said the peace and unity had no substitute. “This has been the cherished agenda of Sher-e-Kashmir and Begum Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah who worked tirelessly all their life to strengthen the bonds of amity and brotherhood between communities and regions,” he added.
He said befitting tribute to Madr-e-Mehrban would be to carve out a huge role for women in decision making and bringing them in the forefront to lead various disciplines. He said National Conference has been striving towards this cherished agenda with sincerity of purpose.
Paying tributes to Madr-e-Mehrban, former Minister and senior NC leader, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra recalled her role as a conscious-keeper of the party during imprisonment of Sher-e-Kashmir for 22 years. He said that she proved to be an affectionate mother, a dynamic leader and a great human being who had concern for the welfare and well-being of the people.
Describing Madr-e-Mehrban as a torch bearer, who steered Jammu and Kashmir towards women empowerment in a big way, former Minister and Sr State Vice President Surjeet Singh Slathia hoped that the path shown by the great visionary will help bringing social harmony in the State.
State Vice President, Th Kashmira Singh read out a poem penned by him, depicting various facets of Madr-e-Mehrban as a great mother and visionary leader.
Former legislator, Bimla Luthra, while paying tribute to Madr-e-Mehrban referred to the crucial role she played in women education, saying this is now showing discernible results as girls are outshining in examinations and competing men in all the spheres.
Earlier, floral tribute was paid to Madr-e-Mehrban at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan and fruits were distributed at the Old Age Home, Ambphalla.
