NOORABAD, Mar 18: Provincial president of National Conference from Kashmir, Nasir Aslam Wani today reiterated party’s commitment to work for restoration of Autonomy in the Jammu and Kashmir state.
Addressing party workers’ convention at DH Pora Kulgam, Mr Wani said, “Our principle stand for restoration of autonomy is not a mere slogan. It is our belief that J&K is not an economic problem. It was and is political in nature and therefore, requires political statesmanship. The political aspirations of the people of J&K can only be addressed when all the stake holders understand the importance of restoration of autonomy.”
While commemorating the 22nd death anniversary of martyr Wali Mohammad Itoo, Nasir said, “NC has sacrificed a lot in the last 25 years of conflict and therefore, it is incumbent upon those who have a stake in our State to accept that our stand cannot be bought with mere financial packages,” adding that people who consider themselves as the champions of peoples right are right now camping in New Delhi not for us but for the lust of chair.
Taking a jibe at Mehbooba Mufti, Nasir said, “Some days back we were told that PDP is asking for some unknown CBMs before agreeing to Government formation but now no such talk is happening. The false promises regarding the taking over of power projects, removal of AFSPA and many more things are nowhere in the negotiations between PDP and BJP. All they are concerned about is how they will get CMs chair. This, to say the least, is a meek surrender of people’s dignity.”
While recalling the contribution of her father NC South Zone President Sakina Itoo said, “With so disadvantages in areas of development, education, Itoo Sahib managed to establish himself in the political discourse of the State. He was perhaps the only law graduate at that time and immediately after he became MLA, he started to build this constituency a new. Whatever, development DH Pora is witnessing now was actually started by Shaheed Itoo Sahib.
At the function other leaders who spoke on the occasion included District president Kulgam and MLA Homshalibugh Ab Majeed Bhat, MLC Dr Bashir Veeri, MLC Showkat Ganaie and provincial spokesperson and incharge Kulgam Imran Nabi Dar.
