UDHAMPUR, Mar 24: National Conference-Congress alliance today launched a joint campaign in Udhampur Parliamentary constituency and sough massive participation of people in the biggest democratic exercise to marginalise communal and deceptive forces.
Saying that voting for National Conference-Congress alliance would mean strengthening secular forces in Jammu and Kashmir, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana sought people’s decisive verdict against reactionary and fascist elements.
“We have to foil the ugly game-plan of opportunists who have joined hands to destabilise the state by creating divisions among people and vitiating the atmosphere”, Mr Rana said while addressing joint meeting of the alliance partners in Udhampur this afternoon.
Mr Rana cautioned people against the challenge unfolded by unholy and undeclared BJP-PDP alliance to cut the secular votes in a desperate bid to seek passage for saffron candidates from the Jammu region. The game plan envisages exploiting the public sentiment by inciting passions and flaring up frivolous issues.
“The two parties have been working overtime for a long to generate ill-will among the communities in order to polarise the situation”, he said and admonished them to desist from indulging in such a misadventure anymore.
The Provincial President expressed happiness over the senior Congress leader and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad contesting from Udhampur Parliamentary constituency and said his participation has infused renewed vigour among the people, given his track record and contribution in supplementing the efforts of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in overall development of the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Sr Vice President NC and MLA Surjeet Singh Slathia said the vote to coalition candidates in Udhampur and Jammu Parliamentary constituencies will vindicate the policies of his party that has been striving for progress, prosperity and dignified living of the people across the State.
Mr Slathia gave an overview of the campaign in the two constituencies and envisioned big victory for the two candidates, given the mood of the people. He pooh-poohed the claims of opponents about Modi wave, saying the myth will be exploded on the day of husting.
Exuding confidence about success of coalition candidates across the State, senior Congress leader and MLC Jugal Kishore said that time has come when secular forces should reassert and inflict final blow to those playing communal politics.
