RAMBAN, Sept 10: District unit Ramban of National Conference (NC) has sought Pahari status to the erstwhile Doda district, saying people living in remote and higher reaches speak Pahari and thus, deserve to be considered for benefits of reservations as applicable to this particular category.
“The residents of areas in which majority of people speak the local dialects that include Khashaw (Pogli), Saraji, Bhaderwahi and Padri Kishtwari dialects should be brought under the ambit of Pahari languages and provided the benefits of reservation”, says a resolution adopted at a day-long district convention, held at Community Hall here.
On the occasion, scores of political workers including 2 elected Panchs from various parties especially youth of Pogal-Paristan area of Banihal constituency joined the party. District president of the party, Sajjad Shaheen called upon them to become agents of change. He said that the UT is passing through very difficult times where on one hand people especially youth are being pushed against the wall and on the other hand Government is wasting no time in political, social and economic disempowerment of the people of the erstwhile J&K state.
Shaheen expressed anguish over the dilapidated condition of roads, erratic power and drinking water supply, scarcity of rations and unavailability of essentials. He said the people have been suffering as most of the areas are reeling under darkness and deprived of drinking water facilities.
The NC leader urged the people to reject the elements inimical to the pluralistic ethos of J&K. He said the UT will progress as a single entity by isolating divisive forces and the NC will continue to fight those who want to fragment society in bits and pieces for their petty political interests.
Shaheen exhorted the incumbents to strengthen the NC, which he described as the only answer to steer the UT out of present morass. “NC alone can meet the challenges confronted to the J&K and steer it to a path of progress and development”, he added.
