Sadiq who is also the chief spokesperson of the party said there is no doubt that the dual power system weakens the institutions.
“People have a lot of expectations (from the elected government). The people came out and voted. Now they want their work to be done according to the mandate. .. But now the problem is when there is a dual power system here and it is to be corrected. And that is why we are saying again and again that the statehood should be restored as soon as possible, which we hope will happen in the next Budget session,” Sadiq told reporters in Srinagar.
He said if the Statehood is restored it will reduce the problems of people.
He also pointed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Sonmarg, where he assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that he would fulfill all his commitments
“We are happy with what the Prime Minister said in Sonamarg. Let the Budget session take place and see what he says,” he added.
Asked if statehood was not restored, what could be the next step, Sadiq said it is very easy to fight head-on with the center.
“The Prime Minister and Home of the country have made a commitment. The Supreme Court is also aware. And the resolution of the mandate here was given to the Prime Minister. In Sonmarg, the Prime Minister said that the promise of Modi is not false. Why should we have a war in all this? We hope that the Prime Minister of this country fulfills the promise he made to the people of Kashmir. And now the Parliament session is taking place. We fully hope that there will be mention of Statehood restoration,” he said.
Regarding the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Waqf (Amendment) Bill adopting the report, Sadiq said there should not be any kind of interference in the Waqf management even a little bit.
“The BJP is enjoying the majority but the sentiments associated with the Waqf should be looked into and considered. Our Member Parliament Aga Ruhulla will strongly raise concerns about the bill in the parliament as it would come for the discussions”, the National Conference leader said. (Agencies)
