BANIHAL, Nov 14: Expressing concern over frequent loss of lives on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH) due to accidents, National Conference (NC) district president, Ramban, Sajjad Shaheen today said that miserable condition of NH has turned the 300 km long road into a virtual death trap.
He said as deaths take place frequently on the NH, functioning of traffic authorities and Motor Vehicle Departments is questionable.
The NC leader also said that the road managers cannot escape from their responsibilities.
“The frequent traffic jams and closure of the road has taken J&K people hostages as people across the UT especially in Kashmir and Banihal have been left at the mercy of landslides that disrupt traffic on the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with rest of the country,” Shaheen maintained.
He appealed to the concerned authorities to evolve a proper mechanism in coordination with the stakeholders so that the people are taken out of this highway crisis and demanded ex-gratia relief in favour of next of kin of those killed in yesterday’s accident.
