SRINAGAR, July 9: National Conference (NC) leader Israr Khan has expressed serious concern over alarming rise in COVID positive cases in Srinagar as public doesn’t seem to be bothered about the infection.
“Out of 330 new cases reported today, 271 are from Kashmir and 177 from Srinagar city alone. At Bouleward, Lalded Hospital Market, Dalgate, Downtown etc, one can see the hordes of people making merry and in utter disdain for protective mask, sanitizing or physical distancing,” the NC leader said in a statement.
Khan said that he shudders to imagine the fate of city when Mughal Garden, hotels and restaurants, parlours, shopping malls and other public places will be thrown open for public from tomorrow morning. He appealed Governor, Advisors, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and DC Srinagar to draw an emergency plan for the immediate and strictest lockdown like West Bengal which showed a parallel surge in Coronavirus infection of 24823 and 827 deaths.
“We require a 15-day lockdown to contain the surge and the spread and thereby give breathing space to the administration and our Health professionals. Otherwise, I am afraid that the entire population of Srinagar city will get infected by November 2020,” he asserted.
Khan said that 3 caddies of the Royal Spring Golf Course Kashmir tested positive today and sent the alarm bells ringing among the players and the staff. “These caddies sit and huddled together in a designated place and wait for their hiring by the Golfers. Henceforth, administration should test all i.e. Golfers as well as caddies on the daily basis,” he demanded.
The NC leader said that the country is witnessing an increase of almost 25000 cases in 24 hours and 400 to 500 deaths. “At that rate we may surpass the second worst infected country Brazil and then overtake even US by October. In short, if vaccine is not found, every individual in the country may get infected and 90 % may recover without even knowing it,” he added.
