NC MLAs protest against killing of civilian in Srinagar

JAMMU, Mar 13: The State Assembly witnessed heated exchanges between MLA Rashid and Opposition members from Jammu when the former supported by the NC MLAs raised the alleged killing of a civilian in Srinagar by the CRPF jawans today.
As the House assembled for second sitting this afternoon, Engineer Rashid stood up from his seat and protested against the alleged killing of one more civilian in Srinagar by CRPF today.
The MLA said “one more person was killed by CRPF today and our children are dying”. He was supported by NC MLAs Shamima Firdose, Dr Mustafa Kamaal, Irfan Shah and Peer Aufaq who also stood up from their seats and wanted that Government should give a statement in the House on the killing.
“Our children are being killed how long it will go” said, agitated Shamima Firdose, adding “it is not a way to run the Government and Home Minister should give a statement in the House who killed them.
Speaker Mubarak Gul’s repeated pleas went in vain asking members to take their seats and Engineer Rashid continued saying that innocents are being killed. Taking strong exception to Engineer Rashid’s behavior Minister of Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla also stood up from his seat and
retarded at Engineer. The Minister, while asking the MLA to sit down said five CRPF jawans were killed in Srinagar. He said we are against the killing of innocent people as well as soldiers and MLA should not always try to make the issue unnecessarily.
Mr Bhalla snubbed the MLA asking him sit down and not to create the drama in the House.
To counter the NC members and independent MLA the opposition members from Jammu including Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Jagidsh Raj Sapolia, Choudhary Sukhnandan and others also stood up and started arguing with Rashid. To pacify the members Speaker said killing of innocent person whosoever he may be is a cause of concern for everybody. However, when Engineer Rashid did not sit down and continued arguing with Opposition MLAs from Jammu, Harshdev Singh of NPP stood up asking Speaker that he had marshaled him out in the morning how he came back this time.
As Rashid was still on his toes and the Speaker asked him Mr Rashid for the sake of God be seated. But he continued arguments with Jammu MLAs and the verbal duel continued for some time.
Meantime, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shabir Ahmed Khan read the grants and Rashid took his seat but continued noise. He alleged that VDC members have been given powers who indulge in killings.
He also made some remarks against the Opposition members from Jammu which could not be heard in the din.
