JAMMU, Oct 2: Lambasting the National Conference (NC) leadership State BJP general secretary & incharge Ladakh region, Yudhvir Sethi today said that the party has shown scant respect for democracy after terminating its activists from Ramban for their participation in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections.
Addressing the party meetings while campaigning for BJP candidates in Jammu East, he said the leaders have described their workers action of participating in elections as anti-party activities whereas they dared to be part of a democratic process and preferred to represent their own people in elections than staying back. How could this action of strengthening democracy be anti-party, he questioned?
Yudhvir said Zahur-ud-Din Babbar, Rajnesh Pargal and Mohammad Babbar Malik repelled by NC have in fact shown their faith in democracy and made sincere efforts to represent their people in local bodies by jumping into the fray. He added that those trying to snub them or paint them wrong are inimical to peace.
He said NC did not boycott the elections for any reason but the fact is that the Party never wanted that the basic democratic institutions should get strengthened in the State as during its tenure in office since 1947, it never encouraged holding of Panchayat and ULB poll.
Yudhvir said these leaders of their parties won’t think once when it be their turn to contest elections but when it comes to empower common people and make them part of democratic process they come up with several excuses. In fact that these people don’t want common person to participate in decision taking institutions like ULBs.
Appreciating the decision of those who are all contesting as independent candidates, Yudhvir said they have honoured democracy and people’s faith in their leadership. By taking plea of court case or citing situation as reasons for not contesting polls and that too that of local bodies or Panchayats, parties like NC and PDP have betrayed the people and proved that they are against decentralization of powers and want them to be close to their chest.
Yudhvir hailed the decision of all those who are contesting polls and said winning or losing makes no difference but participating in democratic process makes a lot of difference and speaks of people’s urge to see peace dawning in the State.
