JAMMU, Sept 18: BJP has claimed that Kashmir centric parties continue to resist the devolution of power to the lowest echelons of democracy on one pretext or the other.
In a handout Brig Anil Gupta, BJP State Spokesperson said while the people at large are celebrating State government’s decision to conduct local bodies and Panchayat elections and even the electoral process has been set in motion, the Kashmir-centric parties sticking to poll boycott is not proper.
He took a dig at the Kashmir Province President of NC for questioning the relevance of these elections by quoting the incident of 1951 election to the Constituent Assembly which was boycotted by the Praja Parishad of Jammu and Sheikh Abdullah decided to go ahead with the elections with NC winning 75/75 seats unopposed.
“If those elections were considered perfectly relevant, then how come relevance of these elections is questioned,” asked Brig Gupta adding: “The fact is that NC right from its inception has been an autocratic party which later became dynastic.”
“Sheikh Abdullah always wanted to govern J&K as a ‘party state’ with his slogan ‘One Party, One Leader, One Programme’ maintained Brig Gupta.
He said that even now the party leadership has completely ignored the wishes and sentiments of its workers by announcing the boycott.
“It should have left it for the people to decide. The cadres in Jammu and Ladakh have been taken for granted and their interest totally overlooked by both the NC and PDP just for the sake of dynastic interests,” the Brigadier said.
