BJP chalks out poll strategy in Kargil

JAMMU, May 7: Hitting out at National Conference (NC) for playing deceptive and dubious political game, BJP national general secretary and Incharge J&K and Ladakh UTs, Tarun Chugh today said the party (NC) has shown its true colours again by deceiving Congress and INDIA block with its entire Kargil unit extending support to Independent candidate from Kargil instead of joint candidate of INDIA block from Leh.

Talking to reporters during his visit to Kargil today to chalk out the poll strategy and boost morale of his cadre in the UT, Chugh said deception is old habit of NC and its leaders including party president, Dr Farooq Abdullah and working president, Omar Abdullah as old habits hard. Earlier they deceived People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief, Mehbooba Mufti and now Congress.

The NC leadership did this all to grab power as they are in desperation after being out of power for a decade now, he said.
Chugh said how hard NC may try but it will not succeed in its designs as people of Ladakh are with Modi’s BJP. He, while criticizing the NC and Congress said what they did for this region during last seven decades of their rule.
“These parties did not mind that Ladakh region including Kargil district remained cut off from Srinagar and rest of the country for six months of a year and they never paid any interest of ensuring round the clock road connectivity to the region to boost its trade, tourism and economy,. Imagine if there is a catastrophe during this period of year what the people will do. It is unfortunate that both Congress and NC never gave a thought to it but where only interested in vote politics’’, he added.
Chugh said it was Prime Minister, Narendra Modi who took keen interest in development of backward and hitherto neglected regions of the country including Ladakh UT and work on Zojila tunnel was started. Now the Ladakh UT will not remain cut off for six long months of a year but there will be road connectivity throughout the year. “If Narendra Modi could think of this why not the earlier Prime Ministers of Congress could not take a decision in this regard’’? he asked.
Chugh said BJP Government at Delhi led by Modi has planned to make Ladakh region a tourist hub by giving thrust to eco-tourism in both Kargil and Leh districts. This will boost the economy and trade in the Himalayan region, he added.
The BJP national general secretary said that road connectivity was made better in Ladakh and many far-flung areas were connected with a good network of roads during last 10 years of Modi rule at Centre. The drinking water supply was made better and far flung areas were provided tapped water by the Modi Government, he added.
Chugh exuding confidence said that people of Kargil who were benefitted through various schemes of Modi Government, including Ayushman Bharat, Ujwala, PM Aawas Yojna etc will definitely back Prime Minister. He said people of Kargil know that Modi will win the elections with a thumping majority and become the Prime Minister for third consecutive term and they will definitely vote for BJP candidate for Ladakh Parliamentary constituency.
Chugh in response to a question about a full-fledged Airport at Kargil said that it is under the consideration of the Government and a plan has been framed in this regard. He said besides, the Kargil Airport Shuttle Helicopter service for Kargil is also under consideration and after elections are over their construction will be taken up in hand.
Chugh said that sensing defeat the NC leaders backed the independent candidate from Kargil but this can hardly make any difference for BJP.
He said Kargil district being one of the important districts of the region so to chalk out the poll strategy a meeting was organised by him with senior party functionaries. He said all the booth, Mandal level workers have been instructed to visit door to door and from lane to lane to garner support for the party candidate by highlighting the last 10 years achievements of Modi Government and public welfare and development schemes launched by it.
Chugh, while highlighting the achievements of Modi Government took Congress to task for not providing free ration to people which was rotten in Godowns but Modi Government distributed the free ration among poor. He said likewise the founding fathers of Indian Constitution have never recommended the reservation on the basis of religion but Congress did it.
He said nation needs a strong Government headed by a strong statesman like Narendra Modi and people of country have decided to give massive mandate to Modi this time.
Haji Anayat, a senior BJP leader, while talking to reporters said that NC was deceiving the people of Kargil and resignation of its leaders to support independent candidate from Kargil is nothing except a conspiracy against the people of the region. He, however said the party will never succeed in its designs.
