SAMBA, Apr 26: National Conference Sr Vice President Surjit Singh Slathia and Provincial President Jammu Devender Singh Rana today exhorted party cadres to gear up for 2014 elections in a big way and steer the party to the glory it deserves at the strength of its unblemished service to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The performance card of the Government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stands testimony to the commitment of National Conference to steer the state to pinnacles of development and heralding a new era of peace and normalcy”, Slathia told an enthusiastic party rally at Samba this afternoon, which was organized by Satwant Kour Dogra and Suraj Parkash Verma, Sarpanch Blater (Sumb), Samba.
Mr Slathia said the Government has withstood test of times, braved all obstacles created by peace inimical elements and restored peace in the State, leaving those shell shocked who have been benefitting from the disturbed situation and miseries of the people. This odyssey is unstoppable, he said while urging the people to help sustain the gains of peace and ensuring faster development of the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh with thrust on rural, backward and remote areas.
The Provincial President, while addressing the rally, called upon the people to foil the attempts of those dividing them on the basis of region and religion to further their sinister political agenda. In this context, he referred to the clandestine pact between People’s Democratic Party and Bharataya Janata Party which, he said, were working in tandem to incite regional and religious sentiments. This nexus got exposed during the just held Council elections when BJP went whole hog in pledging its support to PDP sponsored candidate in vain bid to weaken National Conference.
“They met the defeat they deserved”, he said while, adding that the 2014 elections were going to inflict a final blow to dubious political entities. He predicted dismemberment of PDP and a big defeat for BJP, given their sinister machinations and anti-people policies. He said the two parties have caused irreparable damage to the interests of the people by plunging the state to political uncertainty from time to time. “The people have not forgotten the mischievous role they played during 2008 by whipping regional and communal passions on an issue which was actually their creation”, he maintained.
Mr Rana castigated PDP leadership for twisting the facts and indulging in disinformation campaign to hoodwink the public opinion. “A senior leader of the party has unleashed a vicious campaign over the fairness of polls, forgetting that it was NC’s firm faith in democracy that ensure free and fair elections which were internationally acclaimed”, he said and wondered when the PDP won the elections, nothing was bad in the process and where it lost, they smelled foul.
“By putting a weak case on the conduct of election, the PDP, in fact, has admitted its defeat well in advance”, he said while describing the frustration in the rank and file of the main Opposition as ‘coming events casting their shadow before”.
On the occasion Suraj Parkash Sharma, Sarpach Blater (Sumb) along with his Niab Sarpanch and Panchs beside a sizable number of supporters joined the National Conference.
