Srinagar, Apr 20: Opposition National Conference (NC) today staged a protest against Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Minister in State Government Chander Prakash Ganga over remarks on stone-pelters and sought his resignation.
The NC leaders and workers took out a rally from party’s Nawa-e-Subh complex headquarters here this afternoon. The protest rally was led by NC district president Srinagar Peer Afaq and Youth National Conference provincial president Salman Ali Sagar. Raising slogans against Ganga and the Coalition Government, scores of NC protesters started marching towards commercial hub Lal Chowk but a heavy contingent of police intercepted them near TRC, preventing them from marching ahead.
Addressing the gathering, the NC leaders said: “Such use of terminology by a responsible minister in the Mehbooba Mufti led Government is very unfortunate and speaks of the communal mindset prevalent among those who are supposed to be guardians of the society.”
While demanding Chander Prakash Ganga’s resignation from the Cabinet, Salman said: “It is highly shameful that no one from the Government or from PDP has spoken against such rabid comments.”
“It shows the seriousness and the priorities of this Government. The whole valley is going through a very volatile phase. Instead of deescalating the situation, every effort is being made to escalate the situation in Kashmir. This is condemnable and will be resisted peacefully,” they said.
