SRINAGAR, May 13:  The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Mohd Akbar Lone today sought release of party general secretary, six time legislator and former minister Haji Ali Mohd Sagar saying the well being of the detainees should override tenuous rationales on their illegal detention.
Lone said that the continuous incarceration of Party general secretary has put his life in threat in view of the COVID-19 crisis. “It is excruciating for his family, associates and admirers. Unaccompanied, Sagar has now been in detention for over nine months. The measure of having such a tall political personality, an ardent democrat in detention is reflective of government’s derision for democratic values and humaneness.”
It is quite depressing to see people with livelong conviction for democracy and constitution undergoing mistreatment; he said while adding, “Some of our party colleagues continue to remain incarcerated at their respective homes, some at detention centers. One is at wits end to ascertain the rationale behind prolonging their incarceration. Their only fault is that they have tirelessly been protecting the interests of people. Having them incarcerated is undoubtedly an affront against those numerous people who have been voting for them. Having them in jails, denying them access to media, colleagues, family, relative is indeed exceedingly authoritarian and least insightful of country’s democratic values fortified by its constitution.”
“ I request the Government of India to release all the detainees languishing in jails, detention centers, house detentions without any delay. My party colleagues including Nasir Aslam Wani, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Chowdhary Ramzaan, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, AR Rathar, Shameema Firdous, Hilal Lone, Aga Syed Mehmood, Dr BA Veeri, A M Dar, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Irfan Shah should also be released from their illegal detentions.  Their detention is bereft of any reason. Their commitment for democracy is incontestable. Having them locked up will only create an atmosphere of mistrust which by no means is in the interest of country, ” Lone added.
Meanwhile, party’s senior leader and former Parliamentarian Sharief- Ud- Din Shariq, Legal cell and Minority cell have also sought release of all incarcerated party leaders.
