Jammu, May 22: The President of J&K Pradesh Youth Congress grassroot level Mohammad Shahnawaz Choudhary has exhorted upon the coalition partner National Conference to devise an immediate and effective strategy on strengthening the democracy grass root level in a three pronged approach as being pursued by the Congress.
Shahnawaz Choudhary said that the three-pronged strategy pursued by the Congress includes: incorporation of 73rd and 74th amendments of Constitution of India into Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, immediate holding of elections of Urban Local Bodies and completion of Panchayat process by holding elections to Block Development Councils and District Development Councils. He said that it is in the interest of the smooth functioning of the coalition government that National Conference cooperates in these issues which form basics of coalition’s commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Shahnawaz Choudhary regretted that the National Conference is not paying any heed to the crucial issues which are not only basic principles of the ruling alliance but also the basic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for which they have suffered for decades. He said Jammu and Kashmir is political most sensitive state of India and most of its issues confronting the state can be fully solved by empowering people at the grassroots. “As oldest party of the state the National Conference must appreciate the Congress concerns and come up with plan to strengthen the grassroots democracy”.
Lauding the efforts of Pradesh Congress Committee President Prof Saifuddin Soz in pursing the Congress agenda on strengthening grassroots democracy, Shahnawaz said the Coalition Coordination Committee in its immediate next meeting must evolve consensus on these three issues.
