JAMMU, May 18: National Conference today staged a massive dharna in protest against deprivation of foodgrains to rationed population, ill-conceived implementation of National Food Security Act and erratic supply of power and drinking water in Jammu.
“PDP-BJP Government has virtually abandoned the people and left them in lurch due to lack of vision and will to govern”, District President Urban Dharamvir Singh Jamwal said while addressing the protesters outside Jammu Press Club this morning.
Braving scorching heat, the protesters kept chanting slogans against mis-governance and administrative failure, while demanding rollback of the NFSA, describing it as anti people.
“Before rushing to implement the NFSA, the coalition should have given a thought to its ill-effects on rationed population”,  Jamwal said, adding that Omar Abdullah led Government did not allow its implementation  because it was against the interests of people. He said the PDP-BJP has allowed implementation of NFSA and even patted their backs notwithstanding people taking to streets across the State against it. He demanded immediate rollback of the Act and provision of ration to the rationees as per previous scale and in accordance of 2011 census.
Referring to deformity of the Act, Jamwal said that despite implementing it against the wishes of people the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department has failed in providing ration cards to vast chunk of population. He said the people are facing lot of miseries on account of rations but the Government has preferred to ignore their woes.
The District President Urban also castigated the coalition for its failures on all fronts, saying the erratic power and water supply during ongoing scorching heat has added to woes of people.
Jamwal cautioned the Government against testing patience of people, saying they must act and steer out the state from ongoing crisis like situation.
Several senior functionaries of the district also addressed the protesters and called for immediate rollback of NFSA.
Prominent among those who joined the protests included Provincial President Women Wing Satwant Kour Dogra, Provincial Vice President Choudhry Haroon, Satpal Lakhotra, Deepender Kour, both former legislators,  Ashok Singh Manhas,  Chander Mohan Sharma,  Vijay Lochan,  Abdul Gani Teli, Mohammed Ayub Malik, Pradeep Bali,  Dilshad Malik,  DC Sucha Singh,  Ashok Dogra,  Sanjay Gupta, Shabeer Samyal,  Rakesh Singh Raka, Pinky Bhat, Veena Oberoi, Komal Singh, Gurnam Singh, Veena Devi, Dalbir Singh, Som Raj,  Anil Sharma,  Sanjeev Sharma, Sanjeev Handa, Master Aslam, Ramji Koul, Rohit Kerni, Sanjeev Dewan.
