Srinagar, Nov 12: National Conference (NC) today suspended its senior vice president, Mohammad Syed Akhoon, from the party’s basic membership for a period of six years.
The decision was made by NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah following accusations of anti-party activities.
A formal letter issued to Akhoon by the provincial president Kashmir, Advocate Showkat Ahmad Mir, outlined that the suspension was a result of actions deemed detrimental to the party’s interests.

“As directed by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, president of JKNC, you are suspended from the basic membership of JKNC for a period of six years for your anti-party activities,” the letter read.
Akhoon has been a prominent figure in the NC for decades. The party has not yet revealed further details regarding the specific nature of Akhoon’s alleged anti-party actions.
However, Akhoon was angry with the party leadership as he was not given party ticket from Hazratbal constituency.
He had publicly voiced his discontent with the party’s leadership. He had accused the NC of promoting dynastic politics, leading to growing dissatisfaction among senior leaders and party workers.
“Ali Mohammad Sagar is younger than me; how dare he read his son’s name as the contesting candidate from Hazratbal without consulting me? I was not taken on board, and after that, the party has continued to ignore my input,” Akhoon had alleged.
He had also claimed that NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah had assured him that Salman Ali Sagar would not be contesting the assembly election from Hazratbal.
