JAMMU, Nov 11: Deputy Chief Minister and senior National Conference (NC) leader Surinder Choudhary today took on BJP heavily for allegedly not keeping their promise of restoring Statehood.
Choudhary was speaking during the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference workers’ conference held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu.
The conference, chaired by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial president of JKNC’s Jammu unit, sought to address growing concerns over the impact of the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile State into Union Territories.
In his opening address, Rattan Lal Gupta criticized the BJP-led Central Government for what he termed its “anti-people policies” over the past decade.
He praised the historic resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, spearheaded by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, calling for dialogue on restoring the region’s special status.
Gupta described the resolution as a crucial step towards reclaiming the rights and dignity of the people of J&K.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, in his address, slammed the BJP for failing to deliver on its promise of Statehood restoration.
He pointed out that the revocation of Article 370 and the division of J&K into Union Territories had left the region vulnerable to external exploitation.
Choudhary emphasized the National Conference’s unwavering commitment to restoring J&K’s special status, which he argued was essential to protect local land, jobs, and resources.
He also highlighted that other States like Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat enjoyed similar protections, questioning why J&K was denied such safeguards.
“The rights of our people are at risk,” Choudhary said. “We need special status to protect our land, jobs, and dignity. The resolution we passed is a step towards undoing the injustice done by the Central Government.”
Minister for Food Supply and Transport, Satish Sharma, also spoke at the event, commending Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his vision of inclusive governance and ensuring equal representation for Jammu.
Sharma reiterated that the restoration of full Statehood is critical for the future of J&K and its people.
The conference was attended by several senior leaders, including MLAs, former Ministers, and district functionaries, all expressing solidarity with the cause of Statehood restoration. The event underscored the National Conference’s ongoing campaign to fight for the political and economic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
