Srinagar, Sept 12: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah today said that National Conference would push for the passing of the Temples and Shrines Bill in the Legislative Assembly and was committed to the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits to their homes and hearths.
Dr. Farooq was speaking to a delegation of Kashmiri Pandit representatives and leaders that included Chairman Minority Cell and Ex-MLC Bhushan Lal Bhat, U. K. Koul, Bal Krishan Bhat, Amit Koul, Ashok Koul and Raja Rada Krishan Bhat. Senior NC Leader and Political Advisor to NC President, Vijay Bakaya was also present in the meeting.
“NC is committed to work for the dignified return and rehabilitation of our Kashmiri Pandit brothers and sisters. We want them to return to their homes and hearths as their exodus has left a vacuum in our society. National Conference will also push the Temples and Shrines Bill in the Legislative Assembly by evolving a wider consensus on this very important issue,” he said.
The NC President also reiterated the party’s stand that the custody and upkeep of Temples and Hindu Shrines in the Valley should be handed over to Kashmiri Pandits. “Our Kashmiri Pandit brothers are the best possible guardians and curators that we can have for our shrines and temples,” he added.”
He said the ethos of secularism and Kashmiriyat was a cause that National Conference had rendered innumerable sacrifices for while, adding that the party would continue to be a flag-bearer of reconciliation, peace and amity in the State.
