HIRANAGAR,  Aug 18: The Provincial president of women wing of National Conference,  Satwant Kaur Dogra today called upon party workers to get ready for Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies elections and exhorted them to aim for victory in elections rather than ensuring the defeat of others.
“I wish to see our women workers as elected representatives and I hope that NC will come with flying colours in the upcoming ULB and Panchayat elections,” Satwant said.
She was addressing one day NC women convention,  organized by Soma Devi former Sarpanch and Provincial  vice president of  women wing at village Londi on international border in  Hiranagar Sub Division today. She was accompanied by Provincial vice president Rama Sambyal,  Provincial secretary Veena Oberoi, District president Neelam Sharma, Block president Shakuntla Devi and Block secretary Shashi  Devi who also addressed the convention.
Addressing the party workers, Satwant Kaur said that women have played  vital role in transformation of society and have shown the path of progress and prosperity to the men folk in every sphere of life. While dwelling upon various initiatives taken by National Conference from time to time for the empowerment of women, particularly living in far flung areas, she said that today every second doctor in J&K is a female and this could be achieved only due to the foresightedness of NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah who provided 50 percent reservation to women in MBBS.
While referring to the Land to Tiller Act enacted by Late Sheikh Mohd Abdullah which changed the economic condition of landless farmers of the State, Dogra said that history stands testimony to the efforts made by NC for ensuring economic empowerment of downtrodden.
Accusing PDP-BJP for pursuing opportunist and deceptive agenda, she said that duo stands exposed for perpetrating pushing the State into an era of political crisis. She said that both BJP and PDP did not only put the state in developmental inertia but miserably failed in meeting the aspirations of the people. The remote and far- flung areas remained the worst hit, she added.
