SRINAGAR, Apr 4: The National Conference (NC) workers were today caught on camera distributing money among voters in Bandipora district of North Kashmir.
The NC workers were seen distributing money among voters in Sumbal Sonawari area of Bandipora district in presence of Advocate Hilal Akbar Lone son of Mohammad Akbar Lone.
Lone, who was former Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, is contesting elections from Baramulla Parliamentary constituency that is going to vote on April 11.
The picture of distribution of money by NC workers went viral on social media. Akbar Lone’s son is also seen in the picture.
Hilal Lone admitted in the picture money is being seen handed over but said that he was not part of it. “I have seen the photograph and whatever is happening in the background I don’t know. I have not distributed the money. It is the act of conspiracy against us by our opponents. I was also there in the picture in the background. Have you seen me giving anyone money?” he asked.
The junior Lone said that he can’t be held responsible for the act which he has not done. “Let those be asked who were paying the money. I am in the background of the picture but I can’t be held responsible for the distribution of money. I had with me a religious leader and people gave him money and I don’t know I was in the background of the picture”, he said.
Former MLC Yasir Reshi who hails from Sonawari demanded that the Election Commission should take notice of the money distribution among voters by the NC. “I have also seen the picture on the social media and it is a big challenge for the Election Commission. We will see what action will they take against him. If such thing has been happening and Election Commission is taking action in other parts of the country, we will see what action they take here”, he said.
“As per my inputs money was being distributed today and I don’t think he will get anything out of it. It is clear that such actions are undemocratic”, he said.
