NCB Jammu seizes charas, cash; arrests accused

Jammu, Aug 20: Based on a specific information that a person named Vohra Farukbhai Safatali travelling in vehicle bearing Registration no. DL 7 CF 9847 is coming from Kashmir valley and going towards Gujarat is involved in smuggling of commercial quantity of narcotics drugs, an operation was launched by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Jammu.
A team intercepted one Safatali in the car. During primary interrogation, he confessed that he works as a carrier for a notorious drug trafficker Md. Amin Bhat r/o Kanalwan, Anantnag and Md Amin Bhat had handed over the Honda City Car DL 7 CF 9847 to him and also gave Rs. 25,000 with directions to utilise this money to get special cavities made in the vehicle for the purpose of concealing drugs.
His statement was verified and after confirming the same, his mobile phone containing incriminating evidence related to drug trafficking and a cash of Rs. 29,500 recovered from the dashboard of car were seized.
On the basis of statement of Safatali, the NCB team was sent to Anantnag for follow up action. NCB teams of Jammu & Srinagar Zonal Units along with district police of Anantnag conducted house search of Bhat .
During the house search, 5.914 kg. charas and a cash of Rs. 55,000 were recovered. Md. Amin Bhat is absconding. Efforts are being made to nab him. In the wake of upcoming Legislative Assembly elections, NCB has geared up its preparation to tackle the drug menace and its possible misuse in the election scenario. Being the national nodal agency for drug law enforcement, it has geared itself to stop the supply of drugs in the region.
