Srinagar, Mar 25: Director SKIMS, Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, today warned of the future threat posed by the interaction between the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) epidemic and infections like Tuberculosis (TB).
Dr. Ganie was speaking at an event held to mark World Tuberculosis (TB) Day. He emphasized the importance of research projects focusing on various aspects of tuberculosis to aid its elimination.
The event was organized by the Department of General Medicine in collaboration with the District TB Centre (DTC) Srinagar.
Director SKIMS also stressed the need for collaboration among the Department of General Medicine, the Department of Community Medicine, the Department of Microbiology, and the Department of Infectious Diseases to address various TB-related challenges.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the global burden of TB and highlight the latest advancements in its diagnosis and prevention.
The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Sonauallah Shah, Head of the Department of General Medicine, SKIMS, who highlighted the theme of World TB Day.
This was followed by the Associate Dean’s address by Prof. (Dr.) G.M. Gulzar, Head of the Department of Gastroenterology, who underscored the significance of the event in raising public awareness about the devastating health, social, and economic consequences of tuberculosis.
The event concluded with an interactive session and closing remarks by Prof. Ajaz Nabi Koul, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Ajaz emphasized the importance of teamwork between clinicians, laboratory consultants, and imaging specialists, stating that such collaboration yields significant benefits in the detection and management of tuberculosis at tertiary care centers like SKIMS.
