‘Suggestions of regional councils have evil motives’
Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 2: Holding it as highly intriguing the slogans of restoring the pre-1953 status of J&K and that of the office of Prime Minister as also the Sadar-e-Riyasat, being raised by the NC leader, Omar Abdullah, the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that all this becomes quite fishy as the NC is not only a part of UPA gang up at the Centre but also the party had entered into a mysterious alliance to support the Congress on both the Lok Sabha seats of Jammu and the Congress supporting to one that of Srinagar where NC president, Dr. Farooq Abdullah is contesting.
More so, the PDP is supporting the Congress through backdoor and is spreading communal tentacles in a dangerous manner, he said in a statement issued here, today. These moves should be viewed with all the seriousness, especially when the Congress is trying to trap the Jammuites by just talking about the second part of the evil design that is the Regional Councils to sort out regional aspirations, he added.
Prof. Gupta recalled that this obnoxious design is not new one to distance this State from rest of India to have a Republic within the Republic of India. This was made in early fifties when Dr. Karan Singh was made the Sadar-e-Riyasat and the great Maharaja Hari Singh was put in exile and made to die in a sad situation.
He recalled that how much tremendous sacrifices had to made by the nationalists led by Dr. Shayama Prashad Mukherji and visionary Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, is a saga of sacrifices to save the State from internal and external conspiracies.
Prof. Gupta said that the evil designs did not come to an end though during the small era of Lal Bahadul Shastri. The nomenclature of Sadar-e-Riyasat and that of the Prime Minister were changed and certain other measures were taken to demolish the barriers. Branch of Congress was established in the State on 26th January 1965. Earlier the Congress in the State was operating under the banner of National Conference. There was no role of Election Commission, Supreme Court and that of Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
He also pointed out that despite several measures to remove the barriers between this State and rest of India the nefarious moves did not come to an end which, are now again trying to raise their ugly head.
In this connection, Prof. Gupta recalled that in 1996, Dr. Farooq had appointed the Autonomy Committee to raise the restoration of Pre-1953 status. The first Chairman of this committee was Dr. Karan Singh. In 2001, when the report of the Autonomy Committee was submitted to the Centre, the Vajpayee led NDA Government rejected this report with the remarks that the State was already having abnormal powers.
He said that many problems and sufferings to the people of this State have cropped up but for the Congress having no Kashmir policy coupled with dubious role being played by their friends in the Valley.
