LEH, Nov 7: The New District Committee (NDC) convened a meeting with all Councilors of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), here today.
The meeting was chaired by Pramod Kumar Jain, Chairman of NDC, alongside members Kacho Asfandyar Khan, Tsering Angchok and the Deputy Commissioner Leh Santosh Sukhadeve (ex-officio).
During the meeting, all councilors presented their views, suggestions and feedbacks to apprise the committee of the different requirements and demands arising from the formation of new districts.
Some of the key views and suggestions were to create new post for generation of employment in each district, establishing headquarters and boundaries without conflict, to consider international border and wildlife area while creating boundaries, equal allocation of budget to all districts.
Further, questions were raised on what will happen to the Council or Council Act and it was stressed that creation of new districts does not hamper LAHDC’s existing working structure or elections.
The councilors also pointed out that the new districts should be fully functional with enough manpower and should be functional practically as soon as possible for which rationalization should be done in a proper manner considering the area, block and administrative units.
Some of the councilors with larger constituency also recommended for creation of Sub Divisions at their constituency.
Chief Executive Councilor, Tashi Gyalson recommended creating a judicial system in each district.
He also suggested that the formation of seven districts in UT Ladakh provides a foundation for UT with Legislature and recommended implementing District Development Council format.
Chairman NDC Pramod Jain assured the councilors that their views, suggestions and recommendations would be considered with valid points included in committee’s report.
The meeting was attended by ECs Tsering Angchok and Ghulam Mehdi, Councilor Tsering Namgail and councilors of all the constituency of Leh district.
