JAMMU, May 9: National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) has expressed concern and anguish over the rising number of road accidents in J&K.
NDPI J&K chief, Rajesh Gupta said that J&K recorded the highest number of fatalities in road accidents but no seriousness has been displayed by the administration in this regard.
In a handout he said, as deaths take place frequently on J&K roads, functioning of traffic authorities and Motor Vehicle Department is questionable here.
“The traffic department is least bothered about human deaths. Even the LG administration is not taking deaths in road accidents seriously,” Gupta maintained demanding efforts to raise public awareness about road safety, road safety funds, strengthening of highway patrolling for prevention of accidents and deployment of ambulances.
The NDPI leader urged J&K LG to give top priority to human values as a person’s life is more precious than anything else.
He said that buses, mini buses and bikers should be dealt with iron hands and traffic cops should be more vigilant while on duty.
Gupta also said that miserable condition of J&K roads have become a virtual death trap.
