Nearly 2 lakh pregnant women get benefits of Central scheme

JAMMU, Mar 30: Government today said nearly two lakh women and over 20,000 children have been benefited from various Central schemes under National Rural Health Mission.
As many as 99,780 pregnant women have been benefited under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), which is an NRHM scheme, during current financial year up to January 2013, Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmed Khan said in a written reply to the question of BJP member Baldev Raj Sharma.
JSY is a safe motherhood intervention being implemented under NRHM with the objective of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional deliveries among the pregnant women, he said.
Under the scheme, pregnant women delivering their children in Government run hospitals get paid incentives. A pregnant woman in rural areas gets Rs 1400 while in urban area gets Rs 1000 whereas Rs 500 to BPL woman delivering at home and Rs 600 to ASHA worker helping in delivery.
Similarly, under another scheme — Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana (JSSK) also known as ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’, around 1,19,434 pregnant women and 20,044 sick neonates have been given free treatment during the current financial year upto January 2013, he added.
