Need based PDD worker electrocuted; family, relatives protest

JAMMU, Sept 28: A need based Power Development Department (PDD) employee was electrocuted, while working on a low tension line at Janipur, here sparking protest against the department by the aggrieved family members, relatives and people of his native place.
The employee was identified as Jitender Kumar, son of Kuldeep Raj of Phalain Mandal. He was working on a power line at Janipur to remove the fault.
He was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where doctors pronounced him as brought dead.
As the news of his death spread, family members, relatives and people from his native place assembled at GMCH and held protest demonstration.
An irate mob along with the body of the deceased PDD worker later disrupted the vehicular movement for couple of hours, outside the main gate of GMCH, Bakshi Nagar, resulting into long traffic snarls.
Relatives of the deceased and inmates of his locality said that Jitender Kumar was electrocuted, while performing duty at Janipur, but the Department did not bother about the same.
“No safety equipments are given to the employees, who are working in the Department as linemen, daily rated workers, need bases workers, etc”, they alleged.
“Jitender Kumar was working as need based employee with PDD and he was not paid the salary for the past three months by the department”, they added.
“Around 20 to 30 daily rated employees of PDD die   every year due to electrocution, but the department is not coming forward by framing any policy for them they said.
Later police team from Bakshi Nagar Police Station headed by SHO Dileep Singh rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors assuring them to take the matter with concerned authorities. On his assurance, the protestors dispersed and the vehicular movement was restored.
However, family members of the deceased have also filed a case against PDD at Janipur Police Station also.
