JAMMU, Apr 17: Governor, N.N. Vohra, chaired the 23rd Executive Council meeting of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), at Kakryal, Katra, today. The Governor stressed sharp focus on merit to build the foundations of the University and keeping track of all pass-outs of the University for assessing the employment trends viz-a-viz the courses offered by the University. The Governor emphasized the need to ensure timely completion of all ongoing infrastructure development works and urged Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, Vice Chancellor of the University, to draw up a calendar of all important events to be held in the varsity during Academic Year 2015-16 and see that firm dates are fixed for all important meetings of the various bodies of the University. While reviewing the 10 year Perspective Plan of the University, the Governor stressed the need for existing and the emerging requirements being fully met. He observed that the revised Master Plan, besides providing for new hostels for boys and girls, residential accommodation for faculty and staff, and meeting other arising needs, would also need to reckon the infrastructural requirements arising from the introduction of new academic programmes. While deliberating on the strengthening of the Faculty of the University, the Council suggested a number of measures including providing benefits of pension portability to Professor and Associate Professor level faculty who join SMVDU on deputation from other institutions as well as to those who are offered fresh appointments on selection basis, for the period they retain their lien in their parent or previous organization. The Council also advised the Vice Chancellor to ensure that only meritorious faculty were promoted. The Council also directed the urgent establishment of the Academic Staff College in the University. The Council took a number of important decisions for developing the University as a Centre of Excellence in teaching, research and co-curricular activities and taking necessary action for early establishing of a Nano-Technology Cell. Earlier, Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, Vice Chancellor of the University, in his power point presentation, gave details of the academic and extra-curricular achievements of the University. The Executive Council meeting was attended by P.K. Tripathi, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu; Prof. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir; R. S. Pawar, Chairman, NIIT Ltd; Prof. Vinayshil Gautam, former Director IIT; R.P Agarwal, former Secretary, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India; Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, Dean, Faculty of Management, SMVDU; Prof. V. Verma, Director, Biotechnology, SMVDU; Prof. V. K. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Science; SMVDU; Dr. Yugal Khajuria, Incharge Dean of Students, SMVDU; and Ajay Khajuria, Registrar of the University. Earlier, the Governor inspected the upcoming infrastructure at the University Complex.
