Need to break vortex of violence in Kashmir: CM

SRINAGAR, Jan 6:  Denouncing the killing of four policemen in an IED blast in Sopore, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today urged the people to work shoulder to shoulder to break the “vortex of violence” in the State.
These young policemen were killed when they were on duty to protect the people in the town. It is highly unfortunate to see, Mufti said here.
“The vortex of violence in the State needs to be broken and for that every section of society has to work shoulder to shoulder,” the Chief Minister said.
She wrote on Twitter: “Pained to hear that four policeman have been killed in an IED explosion in Sopore. My deepest condolences to their families.”

Four policemen on patrol duty were killed when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants went off in Sopore in north Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Mehbooba Mufti today handed over orders of appointment to Government service to a group of people who suffered pellet injuries in the Valley in 2016.
An official spokesman said Mufti had given appointment orders to a similar group on December 5 last year. On September 14 and 28, she had disbursed financial assistance to pellet victims, besides, supervising their treatment, he said.
As another step towards their social integration, the Chief Minister today distributed appointment orders to yet another group of people who sustained pellet injuries.
He said Mufti had initiated a series of measures for the rehabilitation, social integration and empowerment of the youth of the State.
Recently, she issued directions for withdrawal of cases against more than 4,000 youths in the Valley. The step was widely hailed by all sections of the society.
A deputation consisting of members of different civil societies and Traders Federation from Pulwama also called on Mehbooba Mufti and brought several demands pertaining to the development of the South Kashmir town into her notice.
“The deputation, that comprised representatives of Auqaf Committee, Traders Federation and other civil society groups, thanked the Chief Minister for initiating developmental works in the district, fast tracking all pending projects and getting them executed in time,” an official spokesperson said here.
He said the deputation sought establishment of a maternity hospital in the town to attend to the huge rush from a vast catchment area of the district. They also sought strengthening of facilities like CT scan, dialysis etc at the District hospital.
They also demanded filling of all vacant positions in the district administration, steps to decongest the town, relocation of the Flood Control division, cleaning of the Dudhe Khul etc. They also sought development of parking spots, community halls, augmentation of power and drinking water facilities in the town.
The deputation also demanded construction of a slaughter house in the town, induction of modern fire fighting equipments and development of parks in the town.
Mufti informed the deputation that she has already directed formulation of a comprehensive plan for developing Pulwama as a modern town. She assured the deputation that their demands would be looked into on priority and addressed in a time bound manner.
A deputation of Hot Mix Plant owners also met the Chief Minister and sought clearing of pending payments and rationalization of their allocated work segments.
The Chief Minister assured them to look into their demands and redress them appropriately.
