Need to reach out to people of Kashmir: CPI(M)

JAMMU, Feb 11 : Lashing out at the Centre for failing to heed the sensitivities of the people of J&K while ordering the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, CPI(M) State secretary M Y Tarigami today said that his execution was bound to increase the alienation of Kashmiris, particularly the younger generations.
Admitting that attack on Parliament was an act of terrorism, he said terrorism in J&K was the result of growing alienation which till date the Government has failed to address.
“It is unfortunate that the family of Guru was not informed prior to his execution and burial,” Tarigami said, demanding that the deceased’s body be returned to his family for last rites.
“I appeal to all shades of opinion in the country to come together and reach out to the people of Kashmir if they really want to reduce the level of alienation,” Tarigami said.
Tarigami said that the State Government must bear all the medical expenses for the treatment of those injured in clashes between protesters and security forces in the Valley.
“I appeal to authorities in J&K to direct security forces to not get provoked – enough is enough – we do not want a repeat of the 2010 Summer unrest at any cost,” he said, adding “we have suffered a lot. There should be no death and no more killings in the future… Any further casualties would have a ripple effect and the situation could turn into a major law and order problem”.
