RAJOURI, Dec 18: The residents of Chaprian (Jawahar Nagar) have raised serious concerns over the negligence of GREF (General Reserve Engineer Force) in maintaining the drainage system along the road in the area. The locals alleged that the drainage system is perpetually blocked, causing immense hardship for the local public and transporters due to persistent water logging on the road.
According to the locals, the problem has been ongoing for years, as GREF workers frequently break the existing drainage slabs every 4-5 months to replace them. However, the drainage system remains dysfunctional, raising suspicions about the misuse of public funds allocated for the project. Residents claim that only three to four GREF labourers are seen working in the area, with no supervision or involvement from higher officials, which further contributes to the inefficiency in resolving the issue.
The poor drainage has turned the road into a hazard, especially during rainy seasons, severely affecting daily commutes and transportation. Local transporters lament that their vehicles are often damaged due to the water logging, causing financial losses and inconvenience.
The aggrieved residents have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma to take immediate cognizance of the matter and order an inquiry into the alleged mismanagement and misuse of funds by GREF. They urged the administration to ensure that the drainage system is repaired and made functional at the earliest to alleviate their hardships.
The residents also demanded accountability from the concerned authorities, calling for strict action against those responsible for the continued negligence.
