NEW DELHI: A comprehensive National Education Policy will be unveiled soon, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani said here today.
A committee set up for the purpose is likely to submit a Draft Policy within a fortnight, Ms Irani told public broadcaster AIR in an exclusive interview.
She said the new policy is being formulated with widest possible inputs from various stake holders, including more than two lakh village education councils and about 1500 urban local bodies.
More than 10,000 villages sent in their written representations, outlining their requirements and expectation which should be reflected in the new policy, she said.
Ms Irani said the HRD Ministry will launch a web portal – Bharatvani shortly which will contain various subjects ranging from teaching to learning in 22 Indian languages. She said, next year the facilities will be extended to one hundred languages.
The Minister said six research parks are being set up through Indian Institute of Technology in the country which is doubled than the research parks set up during 2004 to 2014.
The aim of the Ministry is to impart quality education to the students and make it affordable.
On suicide by a research scholar in Hyderabad University, Ms Irani said the issue was politicised. The aim of her Ministry is to ensure that the Universities are not used as a tool for political purposes and remain temple of learning, she added.
On opening gates for the foreign universities, Ms Irani said the Government has made it very clear that they will have to operate in collaboration with an Indian institution under the overall jurisdiction of the University Grant Commission.
She said this arrangement was necessary to ensure that the Indian laws are applied on these foreign universities in case litigation. (AGENCIES)
