New Housing Colonies

Sir,
This has a reference to news item “Vyas calls for establishing new Housing Colonies in Srinagar, Jammu” DE Oct 24, 2018. In this connection it is requested that the performance audit of J&K Housing Board and JDA should be conducted by the Government. It is pertinent to mention that Housing Board and JDA were constituted to provide affordable housing to all especially the common man. From the last over twenty years it has been seen that these agencies have managed only advertisements in newspapers. In Udhampur two Housing Colonies were proposed at Jakhar and Battal-Ballian and even the booking charges for the plots were collected in crores. Thereafrer, everything was left at the mercy of God. In Jammu the condition is miserable enough as the proposed sites for establishment of colonies passed into the hands of land mafia or private players. Then the colonies were proposed near the “Khuds” which are flood prone pieces of land and have been objected. In short, we can say that there is zero progress on the ground against to ever increasing public need. Same is the condition of JDA. The flats so constructed at very slow speed should only be reserved for residents of Jammu Province whereas only 15 percent of flats be allotted to outsiders. The Government should constitute High Power Committee to verify the performance of Housing Board and JDA with respect to their service to the people of Jammu.
