JAMMU, May 31: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora today said that the Jammu Development Authority (JDA)  has planned  many new housing colonies in the city  to provide affordable housing facilities to the people.
Jora, who is also chairman of JDA was speaking at a function organized by the Authority to announce  allotment of residential plots at Roop Nagar through draw of lots here today.
About 93 plots were identified for allotment to the applicants and to ensure transparency in the allotment, the names of the allottees were drawn through draw of lots.
The plot numbers were also intimated to the successful applicants soon after the draw of lots. This initiative was taken to ensure that no preferential treatment in given while allotting plots.
Jora also handed over the letter of intent to 37 beneficiaries of previous allotments in order to clear the liabilities.
He reiterated the commitment of the Government to create better infrastructure and cater to the needs and demands of urban population. He said that various new housing colonies have been proposed in Gole Gujral, Nagrota, Birpur and Bhagwati Nagar to provide affordable housing to people.
He said that every step will be taken to ensure complete transparency in the entire system of allotment. He said that JDA was making major initiatives to manage its land bank and create valuable residential, commercial and other assets in a planned manner.
Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Satesh Nehru, Vice Chairman, JDA, Sushma Chauhan, Commissioner JMC, Kiran Wattal, Director Urban & Local Bodies, K L Khajuria and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
