Jammu, Mar 18: The UT Government today said that it is in the process of formulating a New Media Policy to encompass emerging platforms including social media platforms, news web portals and websites, for empanelment.

In its reply to cut motion of MLA Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, the Government disclosed that the department is in the process of formulating a New Media Policy to encompass emerging platforms including social media platforms, news web portals and websites, for empanelment.
“The formulation of New Media Policy aims to align with the evolving media landscape and adhere to the standards set by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Government of India,” the Government said.
The Government also disclosed that a discretionary grant of Rs 80 lakh has been allocated to the Chief Minister for the fiscal year 2025-26 and Rs five lakh for each Cabinet Minister for the same period.
In response to the cut motion moved by BJP MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta, the Government revealed these allocations. It was further disclosed that during the current financial year, Rs 50 lakh in discretionary grants have been allocated to the Chief Minister and Rs 2.5 lakh to each Cabinet Minister.
The discretionary grants are available to enable the Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers to provide financial assistance to organizations and initiatives aimed at addressing specific needs and promoting public welfare.
The Chief Minister has the authority to issue recurring grants to institutions and individuals engaged in activities that, in his opinion, enhance public well-being. Cabinet Ministers, on the other hand, may provide non-recurring grants to charitable organizations and individuals on similar grounds.
Meanwhile, the Government said Rs 14. 85 crore expenditure has been incurred on chartered flights over the last four years.
In its reply to the cut motion of MLA Shopian, Shabir Ahmad Kullay, the government said that an expenditure of Rs 14,85,94,471 has been incurred over the last four years on chartered flights after observing codal formalities.
“Moreover there was no chartered flight before 2021,” the Government disclosed.
The Government also disclosed that an expenditure of Rs 12312245 has been incurred on VIPs visits to Jammu & Kashmir during 2024-25.
“The total expenditure of Rs 1,23,12,245 during the financial year 2024-25, incurred on travel expenditure is within the sanctioned budgetary allocation and each expense is accounted for, and periodic audits ensure transparency and fiscal discipline,” the Government said.
The Government also disclosed that the expenditure incurred on account of VIP visits to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir is in accordance with the established protocols and the imperative need to ensure the smooth conduct of VIP visits.
