JAMMU, Feb 6: The New Plot-Janipur road in Jammu is deteriorating rapidly, causing distress among the commuters as authorities overlook its maintenance.
Used by several VIPs as well as other commuters, the road has turned into a nightmare due to the ongoing construction and sewerage projects, particularly between Talli Morh and New Plot.
Several deputations approached the Excelsior and expressed concern over the road’s congestion, attributing it to a lack of repair and renovation works for over a year by the executing agency PWD (R&B).
“Despite guidelines mandating post-construction maintenance for three years, the road continues to deteriorate without any visible efforts to improve its condition,” they said.
The concerned citizens said that stakeholders have time and again proposed constructing an alternative road from Ambphalla to Akhnoor via the outer periphery of the High Court, Lakkar Mandi, and Janipur to ease congestion.
“However, the Government has not taken these suggestions seriously, leaving commuters to endure long delays for short journeys,” they said.
Rakesh Kumar, one of the concerned citizens, who commutes regularly on this road stretch to his shop in the Old City area, emphasized the broader issue of neglected roads in entire Jammu West.
According to him, alternative routes like Paloura-Rehari road and others are also in a state of disrepair, leading to frequent traffic jams.
Kumar urged the Government to urgently address the deteriorating condition of these roads and streets to alleviate the plight of commuters.
“Neglecting essential infrastructure not only inconveniences travellers but also hampers economic activities and affects the quality of life for residents,” he said.
