Thousands of vacancies in various departments, organizations and public enterprise units have remained unfilled for a long time. The main reason is that the recruitment organ meaning the State Recruitment Board and the State Public Service Commission were short of manpower. At the same time the Government is faced with the necessity of providing employment to the educated unemployed youth of the State. Now that the requisite manpower has been provided, the Chief Secretary has called the meeting of all Administrative Secretaries to expedite recruitment against vacancies in their respective departments. It is good news that the departments will report all vacancies to the Recruitment Board in the case of non-gazetted vacancies and to the State PSC in the case of gazette vacancies. The Recruitment Board will see to it that vacancies referred to it are filled within 3 months of advertisement. Each member of the Recruitment Board will be assigned specific district(s) to take care of recruitments falling within those districts. We are hopeful that the Recruitment Board will begin recruitment forthwith as recruitment remained suspended for a long time.
However, we hope that the old practice of unfair recruitment will stop as part of the new recruitment policy. We have been hearing of irregularities resorted to in making recruitments to the vacancies. In most cases, there is long litigation and court cases, stay orders and other such obstructions to recruitments. We hope that the Government will ensure in its new recruitment policy that no injustice is done to a deserving candidate and illegal and backdoor appointments are blocked.
