JAMMU, Mar 30: Pawan Singh has been elected as new president of Jammu University Non-Teaching Employees Union, elections of which were held today.
Ashwani Bakshi and Sham Lal Sharma have been elected as vice-president and general secretary, respectively while Sanjeev Chadha has been elected as joint secretary, Vikas Langer as secretary and Abhinav Sharma as treasurer.
In a multi-cornered contest for the post of president, Pawan Singh defeated his nearest rival Dr Subhash Chander Raina with a narrow margin of five votes. Pawan Singh secured 216 votes while Mr Raina was polled 211 votes.
Similarly, for the post of vice-president, Ashwani Bakshi defeated Vikram Thakyal with a slight margin of 9 votes while Sham Lal Sharma defeated Ravi Gupta with a huge margin of 79 votes for the post of general secretary.
Abhinav Sharma, who was elected as treasure, has secured highest number of 337 votes in the election.
For the post of Executive Member, Niranjan Singh Charak, Joginder Singh, Kewal Kumar, Padmani, Sunita Amla and Jarnail Singh were declared elected.
There were total 32 contestants in the race for Executive Body Member.
The results were announced by Prof Dhyan Singh Bhau, who was the Election Incharge.
The new team has been elected for two years.
