SRINAGAR, Nov 26: Newly elected Councillors of Baramulla Municipal Corporation today accused Government of “deliberately excluding” them from a public meeting that was held at Dak Bungalow Baramulla in north Kashmir.
As a part of an initiative by Governor’s administration, Advisor to the Governor Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today interacted with public delegations to listen to public grievances, issues and demands but the recently elected Councillors were ignored by the administration while various organizations were invited.
Over a dozen newly elected Councillors accused Government of ignoring them after the elections. They said that despite being the elected representatives of the people they were not invited for the meeting, “How can they discuss the problems of the people without the people they have elected. We have fought elections in the tuff times to address the problems of people but the Government is sidelining us for unknown reasons,” Umar Azhar Kakroo, President Municipal Committee Baramulla said.
He also complained about the lack of security and accommodation. “We feel threatened without security. No vehicle has been provided to us. We were promised security and accommodation before elections,” he said, adding they are unable to resolve the issues of the people as they could not visit their wards due to lack of security.
