Newly elected Councillors updated about MODI schemes

LEH, Dec 17: To educate and gear up newly elected Councillors of 6th LAHDC, Leh for successful implementation of Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) schemes in Leh district, the officers of Agriculture Department Leh headed by Chief Agriculture Officer Leh Tashi Tsetan gave a detail power point presentation to the Councilors in presence of Executive Councillor for Agriculture Stanzin Chosphel and Executive Councillor for Rural Development Department Tashi Namgyal Yaksee here today.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Leh Tashi Tsetan briefed the meeting that in March 2019, the Mission Organic Development Initiative of Ladakh initiated by the LAHDC, Leh was unanimously voted in favour of achieving the aim of converting Leh into an organic district by 2025. Designed by Study Committee of Hill Council Leh that studied, made an exposure tour of Sikkim and as per baseline data of policy documents of Bhutan, Sikkim, Himachal, Karnataka other States known for organic farming compiled up their research work through a book having detailed policy, strategy and action plan under MODI.
The presentation also highlighted the overview of the agriculture sector in Leh district.
The Executive Councillor for Agriculture Stanzin Chosphel informed meeting about the Council decision for constitution of cluster level committees at block levels involving area Councillors which will ensure quality and inclusive results while implementing MODI schemes and will also give feedbacks time to time as per the need of different villages to make MODI more result oriented.
Meanwhile, Counicllor Phyang Tundup Norboo gave a powerpoint presentation about the method of developing compost manure known as Shivansh Fertilizer in 18 days.
EC Agriculture instructed Agriculture Department Leh to see the feasibility of the method in Ladakh.
