JAMMU, May 1: A newly married lady was crushed to death by a speedy truck in Nai Basti area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar police station.
As per police sources, a newly married woman namely Monika Manhas, wife of Raman Singh, a resident of Lakkar Mandi, Janipur was riding on a motorcycle bearing registration number JK02AB-7075 along with her husband, when a speedy truck bearing registration number JK02R-3837 hit the motorcycle at Nai Basti, resulting into on the spot death of the lady. The husband of the deceased escaped unhurt in the accident.
On getting information, police team from Gandhi Nagar police station led by SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh rushed to the spot and shifted the body of the deceased to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
After conducting the postmortem at GMCH, the body was handed over to family members for last rites.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station and manhunt has been launched to nab the accused driver, who fled from the spot along with the vehicle.
However, the truck driver was at large when report was compiled.
