JAMMU, Oct 5: The Non Gazetted Police Pensioners Welfare Forum (NGPPWF) today staged a demonstration at Hari Singh Park here, seeking an end to the alleged discrimination faced by the retired Police and J&K Fire Services’ pensioners in the allocation of pension benefits.
Ajit Singh, Chairman of NGPPWF, pointed out that while the 5th pay commission was implemented throughout the erstwhile State in 1996, the Police Department only extended its benefits to the non-gazetted pensioners prospectively through Government order number 229-F of 2014 dated October 17, 2014.
He emphasized the need for these benefits to be granted retroactively, dating back to 1996, aligning with practices in other Government Departments.
He also expressed concern over the fact that some of the Police and J&K Fire Services’ pensioners have already passed away without receiving the crucial benefits.
He urged the authorities to ensure that the living pensions are not left behind and receive the benefits they deserve.
Singh also called for an increase in the Medical Allowance provided to UT pensioners, aligning it with the Central Government’s rate of Rs 1000, a substantial raise from the current Rs 300. He also demanded that 10% reservation be set aside for the admission of police personnel’s children in professional colleges and during recruitment processes.
