NH partially restored

RAMBAN, Jan 3: Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was partially restored for traffic this evening after remaining closed for three days.
Official sources said that after clearance of landslides and boulders at Digdol at around 3 pm today, the movement of stranded Jammu bound vehicles was allowed. The authorities could restore only single stretch at this point. But at around 5 pm again the landslides occurred at the same point and the highway was again blocked. It was restored again after an hour and the movement of vehicles was going on with frequent disruptions due to shooting stones.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Nazim Zai Khan personally monitored the road clearance operation at Digdol area today and ensured that all stranded passengers are provided meals besides night shelter.
SSP, Ramban Anita Sharma, SSP Traffic (NH), JS Johar, ACR, Harbans Lal and various officers of civil and police administration supervised road clearance operation besides adequate arrangements for the stay of stranded passengers.
The DC directed authorities of executing agencies to depute adequate men and machinery to remove landslides instantly from National Highway to ensure traffic worthy road. He appealed to the commuters to contact Traffic Control Rooms before starting their journey on the highway.
Meanwhile, due to the closure of highway, over 6000 vehicles were stranded at various places between Jammu to Banihal and other side of the Jawahar Tunnel towards Kashmir. They were now being cleared first. The vehicles were stranded at Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Ramban districts as well, the sources added.
Landslides took place at Karol in Chanderkote near Jaiswal bridge and Digdol two days ago. No fresh traffic is being allowed from Nagrota or Udhampur TCPs by the Traffic Police officials till the down convoy is cleared.
