JAMMU, Mar 11: Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was partially restored this afternoon and the vehicles, including trucks, were allowed to slowly move towards Kashmir notwithstanding bad weather.
According to IG Traffic T Namgyal, upward convoy towards Kashmir was being allowed from 2 pm after the stranded vehicles on way to Jammu were cleared by this afternoon.
Only one way traffic is being allowed to move as the highway has been restored partially following its closure yesterday after fresh landslides in Ramsu area of Ramban district. Even as the traffic was partially restored in the last evening after some restoration work, no fresh vehicles were being allowed to move on the highway. Due to the blockade, around 2000 vehicles were stranded on the highway, which were cleared in phased manner.
In view of the prevailing bad weather conditions, normal traffic on the highway is unlikely to be restored in next two-three days. Only one way traffic would continue to ply till the weather improves and the restoration work is resumed, sources said.
Pertinent to mention that frequent closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for the last one week has badly hit the movement of vehicles, particularly the trucks carrying essentials while the Mughal Road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Poonch remained closed for the past two months.
