The case relates to the militant activities of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in South Kashmir, during which two militants were killed by security forces in a gun battle at Chewa Kalan, Pulwama in March this year.
The operation was conducted jointly by police, 50 RR of Army and 182 battalion of CRPF after inputs about presence of militants in the village. As the search party moved towards local Darul Uloom in the village, militants hiding inside fired indiscriminately upon the search party in which one civilian identified as Zahoor Ahmad Shergojri son of Muhammad Abdullah of Chew Kalan received gunshot injury. Later, two militants of JeM were killed.
The killed militants were later identified as Aquib Mushtaq Bhat of Pulwama and Kamal Bhai of Pakistan. The case was originally registered at Police Station, Pulwama (FIR no. 50/2022 dated 11.03.2022) and was subsequently taken over by NIA in April.
“NIA conducted searches at seven locations in Pulwama (district) and arrested four accused in the case (RC-02/2022/NIA/JMU),” NIA in a statement said.
A large quantity of incriminating materials was seized during the searches by the NIA.
