SRINAGAR, Aug 10: Three former heads of banned Islamic organization Jamat-e-Islami today described the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raids on JeI leaders as mere harassment as they said that they are not involved in underground activities.
The three Ameer of JeI Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Sheikh Ghulam Hassan and Mohammad Abdullah Wani and former spokesman Advocate Zahid Ali in a statement issued here said that the NIA raids are an open attempt to harass, intimidate and restrict the sympathizers of banned JeI from carrying any activity on their personal and individual capacities for the ultimate good of the people at large.
The statement said that the banning of JeI in 2019 was a harsh decision and based on some misunderstanding.
It said that the discouraging state of affairs was created by conducting mass raids on the residences of ex-leaders and cadres of JEI across 14 districts of J&K without any apparent cause or justification.
The statement said that it is expected that the NIA will release the phones, electric gadgets to their owners so that their users are not put to any mental trouble or physical loss.
The statement said that the Jamat leaders and activists after the ban have started their personal business and other jobs to sustain themselves. It said that prior to the ban JEI leaders were providing full time service to the organization.
It said that the Jamat was employing all the lawful means to get the ban out and was waiting for the judicial verdict in the case filed against the ban.
